Ahhh To Be An Adult

I officially hate bills. I mean, who among us can really say they love to pay bills?? I mean, sure, it symbolizes that you are an adult and you earn money to pay for things you need / want, which in turn makes you feel independent, self sufficient, and proud that you can do such a thing. But toss that crap to the side and it's just a pain in the butt.

What I hate to pay the most: rent.

Paying other bills (car payments, insurance, etc) are alright because they're going towards something in the long run that will benefit you. Rent is just for the present; sure, you get a place to live right here right now, but what do you get in the long run? Nada. I so want to be in a house right now. Our money would be going to much better use.

I've mentioned this before but here's our situation as it stands right now:

Tony owns an apartment back in Durango. He's still making payments on it so when our credit runs, it shows up....which then shows a debt to income ratio that's not good. Obviously Tony doesnt make enough to cover paying for that, our other payments, and a mortgage on top of that. Our broker said that if he gets the apartment out of his name or sells it that we would be approved for a home. Just like that. That's the only thing holding us back. Tony does not want this apartment. He wanted to do something about it before we moved over a year ago but his grandpa really wouldnt let him. We're still having problems with that and we're trying to work them out. In the meantime, Tony has finally been able to talk to someone and get it on the market over there. In fact he faxed over signed papers today to get this show on the road. I really hope this whole thing is cleared up soon because our lease is up in January and it would be ideal to move out at that time.

While I love our place, it's expensive. We could be using that money elsewhere (and trust me, we really could use it for better things right now, for example - prepare for baby girl's arrival a little bit more)! I know for a fact that we could be saving at least $500 a month by living in a house. For what we are approved for, we could get a lovely little house, pay our other bills, have extra for necessities and luxuries, and still be able to put some away into savings. But as of right now, we're barely making it work. Because Tony was laid off a while ago, we lost out on 2 weeks worth of pay, which believe it or not, really affected us. We had to dip into our savings. Now that Tony has a job, we're trying to get back on our feet and back into a routine but it will still take us a little bit to get re-situated. Right now, we are paying $1370 to live where we are (that includes utilities and pet rent for our 2 kitties). Granted, it's a 2 story, 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bathroom, with garage town house and it's super modern and only a couple years old.... but still. While it's nice and I love it, we could just be in such a better situation....if only we didnt have this dang apartment back in Colorado!

And it's not cheaper for us to move somewhere else in the meantime. I mean, eventually it would maybe save us money down the road if we moved into a $800 or $900 smaller apartment but with moving out costs here and then moving in costs over at a new place, as well as moving costs in general, we'd be out a lot of money and have to start over again. So I'd rather just stay here for as long as we can until we move into a more permanent place. And that's with the mind set that we will be moving early next year.

Plus, I just really want to have a little house for Anistynn to grow up in. Again, she will have her own room here and it's nice and safe and clean and up to date, but I'd love to have a little backyard and a cozy space that we can really make our own. For example: we are allowed to paint in our town house if we want to but we are choosing not to paint the nursery because it just seems unnecessary to waste money and time when we plan to not be here for very much longer. BUT I would like to. I have lots of ideas. Hence why I would like to move into a house and paint her room with gusto!

So add on all our other bills:

- PGE (electric)
- NW Natural (gas)
- Car
- Car Insurance
- Renter's Insurance
- School Loan
- TV / Phone / Internet
- Credit Card
- Netflix
- Life Insurance (for both of us)
- Wix (our business websites)
- Cell Phones (mine; Tony is still on a family plan)
- Savings (we have an automatic monthly transfer to ours; we started another one for Anistynn but we decide when to put anything in there)

Plus other things that come up:

- Groceries
- Other household / personal items
- Gas
- Car Maintenance
- Luxury (eating out, movies, etc)
- Baby Items / Nursery Furniture

And whatever else happens to come our way. So good times. Gooooooood times.

Hopefully this apartment dealio will come to pass and we can move on - keep us in your prayers!
