Bow Board

I intended to do a blog on how Tony and I made the bow board for Anistynn, but because of my forgetful mom brain, I didnt take step by step photos of the process like I wanted to (ugh!) so I will just explain it and then post the final outcome. I will be sure to take pictures next time we do something like this though!!

Okay, so this all started out because I was trying to find a solution to display Anistynn's headbands a little bit better. We have been using a basket up until now and although it was a good solution, I would forget about certain ones that we had. I saw all kinds of things online, including using a paper towel roll (decorate it) and slip the headbands around it. Well since Anistynn's headbands are more like headwraps, that would be too much work to pull them off and put them back on all the time. I was looking more for something with hooks. Well, after thinking about it for a while, Tony and I decided to do this project ourselves and we would make a place for most of her headbands (after all, she has 68 to date) and a place for her special bows / clips. Thus, the bow board was born.

Materials:

Goodwill ~
- Wooden frame = $3

Target ~
- Metal hooks (we got sturdy nice ones) = $8 for 8 hooks, 4 separate packs

JoAnn's Fabric ~
- 1 yard of black and white vintage patterned fabric = $6
- Pink ribbon = $1.50
- Black ribbon = $1.50

Walmart ~
- Cotton backing = $3
- Black fabric roses = $2

Already Had ~
- Black spray paint
- Glue gun
- Staple gun
- Screws
- Scissors

Total Cost: $25

How We Made it:

1) After getting all our materials, we got to work! First we painted the frame black. We did it lighter on the corners (almost a gray / white effect, although barely noticeable unless you're up close) to give it that antique vintage feel.
2) Since the frame came with it's typical light cardboard in the back, we cut out a heavier piece of board called Masonite to fit the frame.
3) We then took enough of the cotton backing (cotton back is basically what you fill a quilt with) to fill the frame and we laid it on top of the board.
4) Then we cut the appropriate amount of fabric and draped it over the cotton backing, then stapled the fabric to the back of the board with the staple gun.
5) We cut the correct amount of pink ribbon and draped it in a crisscross pattern across the board, stapling the ends of it on the back of the board as well. We also stapled in the middle of some of the crisscrosses so that the cotton backing would poof it out a little and it would be easier to clip bows on.
6) We then took the glue gun and glued on black fabric roses to the crisscrosses with staples in them.
7) We took the metal hooks and painted them black to match the frame. We had 8 but could only fit 7 (it was a little frustrating for my OCD but whatevs - I'd rather have more hooks to hang more headbands). After they dried, we screwed them in to the back of the frame so that they would stick out in the front. Screws came with the hooks but they werent strong enough to use on the frame so we used some of our own that we had previously.
8) We cut pink and black ribbon and used the glue gun to glue the pink onto the black. Then we stapled the ends to the back of the board and tied it in a bow at the top to hang it on the wall.
9) We put the board back into the frame and hung it on the wall in her closet with a white hook.
10) We placed headbands on all 7 hooks (wayyyy more than I was intending to - I only meant to hang her special / favorite / most used headbands, but it turns out there were too many of them!) and clipped what bows she had (she still doesnt have much hair so we dont have very many yet, but more to come!) onto the board.

VOILA!

* We still have headbands left over so they remain in the basket :)

Tutu Shoot

We took Anistynn to do a Valentine's photo shoot at the end of January and it was so much fun! We used Heather of HF Photography again (the same photographer who took our Christmas card photos) and she's just great. Tony is an amazing photographer but he's better at and prefers nature / artsy shots. So we've decided to keep using Heather for as long as we can for all of our professional shots that we want done. I'm thinking I want at least one family shoot each year and a birthday one each year for Anistynn. There might be some other fun ones we come up with to do here and there, but I'm thinking at least 2 shoots a year. Plus, it will be great for Anistynn to grow up being used to the same photographer. She'll probably be more comfortable that way. Heather is great: she's efficient, creative, friendly, quick, very reasonably priced (and offers amazing specials), and posts a preview on Facebook within a couple of days and gets the shots to you for you to choose from within a week. I love it. Anyway, here's Valentine pictures of Miss Anistynn!

Happy Hearts Day!

* Happy Valentine's Day to my husby! <3
* Happy 64th anniversary to my grandparents! <3
* Happy Hearts Day to all you lovebirds out there! <3
* Happy FIRST V Day to my littlest Valentine, Anistynn! <3

Tony works both jobs today which is a total bummer :( BUT he's taking me out tomorrow night to celebrate. That will be good because then we wont be braving the crowds. I have no idea what we're doing though, just that we're dropping Anistynn off with her grandma and grandpa. I'll let you know what happens! :) I did, however, come home to this today though:

Here's the opening of gifts (I gave Tony tickets to the Roadster Show (trucks, motorcycles, and hot rods) in March, we gave Anistynn a cute little stuffed animal, Anistynn 'got' me candy, a mini pen, a stuffed bear (that she apparently grabbed from the shelf), and toe separators, and Tony got me a Hershey Kiss and Jennifer Aniston's perfume (Lolavie - which means 'laughing at life'; LOL a vie - French for 'life') - he got me two - a bottle of it for home and an on the go one. Haha! He also got flowers for Anistynn and I; sooo sweet. Anistynn got mini roses and I got roses in a cool display.

And here's our girl on her first Valentine's Day:

I love my little family!!

Cute Anistynn Pix

How can you deny this pout??

Playing with daddy's hair:

Just being a cutie:

And this, haha, is the only place you can hold a clip in her hair right now. She needs to grow some more hairs!! In the meantime, you will continue to see an array of adorable headbands gracing her head :)

25

My husby turned 25 today! His birthday celebration this year consisted of going to the Portland International Auto Show (which I got him tickets for that he went to in January with a buddy of his) - he took his camera along with him and got some great shots - going to see Chronicle on Friday night, going to see Alvin & The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked at Wunderland (which we hadnt been to yet) with Josh and Lia, church this morning, and a family party which celebrated February birthdays (Lia and Tony) this evening at my parent's house. I also got him the movie Drive

I just have to take a moment and state how much I love my husband. No wait - I cant really do that because I find it hard to put it into words how truly amazing he is. We have our moments, like every couple, our little tiffs and whatnot, but he is such a great guy and an amazing daddy. I know so many single moms (because the father dipped out) and I see those situations and I just see how incredibly blessed I am that not only does Tony work to support our family thus letting me stay home with baby girl which is what I desperately want, but is also a hands on amazing daddy. How did I get so lucky? As I stated on Facebook, today he is a first time birthday dad, a second year birthday husband, and a 25 year birthday individual. I look forward to many more years together!!!

Oh, and random but necessary: Jennifer Aniston's birthday was February 11th - she is my daughter's namesake, my favorite actress, a talented lady, a gorgeous woman, and the spokesperson for my favorite water, Smart Water :)

Notes Of Importance

~ Funny story: My sister, Lia, was over the other week and we were playing with Anistynn. Lia was throwing Anistynn's rattle ball up and down in the air and it accidentally landed on Anistynn's head before bouncing to the ground. It's a soft flexible ball, but Lia and I both inhaled and waited for her to cry. She had this look of surprise for an instant while all was dead silent... and then she just threw her head back and started to laugh!!! CRACK. ME. UP. The 2 pictures below provide the evidence:

~ Speaking of Lia, it was her 13th birthday on the 7th! I cant believe she is a teenager. Time has just flown. For your enjoyment, I have posted 2 photos below of her as a little girl and now:

~ Backtrack a little to the 5th (Superbowl): I'm mainly mentioning this because I was betting on the Giants and they won :) I'm just flaunting it, is all. I had a big bet going (a huge bag of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups) so I'm stoked that I won!!! ;) We had a big family / friends gathering at my parent's house - it was a lot of fun!
